Sugar Cane Super Denim Collectibles #50 1940s Special Denim Jeans

Sugar Cane Super Denim Collectibles #50 1940s Special Denim Jeans

'Denim Collectibles' is a new offering from renowned Japanese Denim experts Sugar Cane & Co. This is headed up by Yuichi Fukutomi of Sugar Cane, bringing together denim specialists and original collectors of vintage American made denim in Japan. Under his careful watch and guidance, Sugar Cane has developed new fabrics, specific patterns as well as parts to truly capture the essence of original, hard-to-find deadstock vintage Levi's from various archives.

Released to mark the 50th anniversary of Sugar Cane, the '1940's Special' jean forms part of the brand's Super Denim Collectibles series. Drawing from exceptionally rare wartime denim of the early 1940s, this limited-production model reflects years of meticulous vintage research, paired with Sugar Cane's own considered interpretation of the period.

Produced at Sugar Cane's US factory from a custom-developed 13.5oz selvedge denim, the jean is packed with era-specific details. Hidden rivets, laurel wreath donut buttons and period-correct construction feature throughout, while intentionally uneven stitching, loose threads and subtle imperfections pay tribute to the hurried manufacturing methods of the wartime years, when many experienced factory workers had left for military service.

As with the finest pieces in the Super Denim Collectibles range, the focus is on capturing both the appearance and character of original garments from the era. The result is a remarkably convincing homage to wartime denim, executed with the level of detail and craftsmanship for which Sugar Cane is renowned.

Fit-wise, expect a classic straight silhouette with a comfortable rise and generous room through the thigh, staying true to the practical workwear cuts of the 1940s.
