Tailor Toyo White Eagle Landscape Souvenir Jacket Pink

The roots of the Souvenir Jacket, or Sukajan in Japanese, can be traced back to American soldiers stationed in the Pacific following the end of World War II During the post-war occupation, American troops began using traditional Japanese designs and hand-stitching them into the backs of their jackets to commemorate their time in Japan Popular designs included Japanese (and Chinese) style dragons, cherry blossoms and trees Some would also opt for artwork that could have ranged from local maps to Geisha girls These pieces would often use rayon and silk

Drawing from the post-war American presence in Japan the Sukajan jacket of the 40's through 60's has been beautifully reproduced by one of the best out there.
