The Real McCoy's Type A-1 Real McCoy MFG. Co. / Sheepskin
Arguably the finest Americana reproduction brand from Japan, the Real McCoy's painstakingly recreate and update original garments for the modern day offering the best from the past, replicated to perfection without compromise in Japan.
The A-1 flight jacket revolutionised not only aviation clothing, but jacket design as a whole. This lightweight new style of “windcheater,” cut to the waist and incorporating knitted components, went on to influence not only its immediate successor, the A-2, but also countless sports jackets following its introduction in the 1920s.
Most A-1 jackets were made from capeskin - a soft, lightweight sheepskin leather valued for its comfort and windproof qualities. However, the material ultimately proved impractical for the harsh demands of combat use. Only a small number of A-1s were produced in horsehide, and surviving examples have since attained an almost mythical status among collectors.
Made in Japan from a vegetable tanned Sheepskin, this A-1 from McCoy's stays true to original production specs & materials used in their first production runs. The A-1 also features a cotton broadcloth lining and wool ribbing on the cuffs, collar & waistband. Two patch pockets w/button flap closure are complete with water buffalo buttons, and button snap closure on waistband.
